End of June Feature/Progress Update

I decided that I want to post a little update, so here’s an update! Nothing written here is groundbreaking or surprising, I just want to share a few details on the game that are currently really only known to testers and others who are “in the know”.

The Blackmoon Prophecy remake has tons of unique equipment pieces to find. Excluding the first several low level dungeons in the game, about 80% of all dungeons the Blackmoon Prophecy Remake contain at least one unique item (gear or weapon). I’m trying to make sure that the dungeons are loaded with treasures, so it pays to look around!

Characters are more versatile than they were in the original. Some characters, like Darius, were hard to make very effective without gaming the system. I’m using design cues from Blackmoon Prophecy II with this remake, and all characters are viable at all times (yes, even Bosche)! Another thing I learned from that game was that having a character feel “mandatory” restricts player creativity and freedom with party setups, so I want to avoid situations like Elina being the only viable healer (though she is the only one for the first little while).

There will be more side activities in the remake. Mark hunting is available early on, and functions like it did in Blackmoon Prophecy II for those who played it - only this time you can’t see the marks on the overworld and have to pay attention to context clues given to you by the Hunters’ Guild agents when picking up marks. There is also an in-game menu you can access to track which marks you’re hunting, what their recommended level range is, and what the reward is for defeating them.

It wouldn’t be a Blackmoon Prophecy game without an auction house, so of course that’s present. In the original Blackmoon Prophecy, the auction house was sitting by itself near a river on the overworld map. In the remake, you’ll find the auction house inside of the town of Kohlingen. As was the case in the original (and FF6), there are some one of a kind goodies to be won in the auction house.

For players who want more demanding side content, the Gygas Arena is around and will function much the same as it did in the original. There are also Miasma Stream dungeons which are accessible from the Rift Shrine. These dungeons have fully randomized treasure, and multiple layouts that are selected at random, so there’s a big element of… well, randomness, with these dungeons!

Players of the original will remember Aurabolt, which was basically just Blackjack, and was playable at Jack’s Shack. In the remake, Jack’s Shack is a little… flashier and larger. There will be additional games to play there, and Aurabolt will literally just be Blackjack, which will make it much fairer to play since it was possible to bust in Aurabolt when making plays that should be safe, like hitting on a low single digit number.

And that’s it! Testing is going very well so far. Testers will be receiving a new test build in the next 2-3 weeks that goes until the end of the Lenadia portion of the game, so the game is progressing at a very steady pace. If you want to follow testing of the game, check out thomasstout25 or LancerD1984 on Twitch in the upcoming weeks.
