A full remake of Final Fantasy Blackmoon Prophecy, a Final Fantasy fan game developed in RPG Maker 2003 from 2003 to 2011.

The original Blackmoon Prophecy is a game that I have been deeply unhappy with for several years now, and despite my best attempts to want to make something original, interest in Blackmoon Prophecy has never really fully waned over the years, and I often get people reaching out to me to talk about their experiences with the game.

I decided that, if Blackmoon Prophecy will be my "game dev legacy", then it should be something that I can be proud of. This is what drove me to decide to fully remake the game in RPG Maker MV.

What's different in the remake?
While staying true to the original game's story and narrative, the remake has extensive changes that are designed to make Blackmoon Prophecy into a much better experience! Here's what is different...



Vahn can actually jump! A character has a steal command! Elina and Oalston can target all enemies with their regular spells, no need for "X-Magic" anymore! Finally be able to use tents on the overworld map! A lot of features and functions that I couldn't do easily in RPG Maker 2003 are now part of the experience in the remake. These new changes and features also all help the game feel more like a true and faithful fan game.


A lot of dungeons that were unnecessary, mostly because they were considered padding or needless filler, are being completely removed from the game. In the first few hours, there are FOUR fewer dungeons than in the original - and they're all caves. This allows for a more streamlined experience and tighter narrative for the player.



In order to make the world feel a little more alive, and to shake up battle mechanics from time to time, guest characters come and go from the party until the player finally fills out their party with four permanent characters.



Most graphics are from the pixel remasters and the Wii version of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. There are also a good number of original tiles by yours truly as well.



While there won't be lots of new content, there are a few new characters and locations scattered throughout the game that have been added to compliment the slight changes to the game's flow and narrative. There are, however, a few notable new things in the game such as a field camp that you can access on the overworld which changes over time, as well as optional mark/monster hunting.



With a new engine comes new possibilities thanks to plugins, as well as increased experience on my end. There are a plethora of little quality of life changes/updates that will be too numerous to mention, all of which are designed to make the game feel and play better.

I will have more details about the remake in time as I work on it. The game is progressing quickly, and I hope to be finished sometime in 2026.
